Partials and Dentures in West Seneca

We understand that when you have one or more missing teeth, your main concern is the appearance of your smile. And rightly so—the way your smile looks to others can have a marked impact on how you feel about yourself. Beyond this, however, your West Seneca dentist at Applegate Dental is also concerned about how tooth loss can affect your overall health and well being. Some patients with missing teeth are forced to eliminate healthy foods from their diet such as fresh fruits and vegetables because they are simply too difficult to chew. Therefore, replacing missing teeth is not only a matter of enhancing your smile but maintaining your good health, too.

Dentists have relied upon partial and full dentures for tooth replacement for decades. At Applegate Dental, we will work with you to create a denture that gives you a natural looking smile and that fits comfortably and securely so you can enjoy all the foods you love.

Partial Dentures in West Seneca

According to the American College of Prosthodontists, around 175 million people in the U.S. are missing at least one tooth. If you count yourself among this population, then your West Seneca dentist can customize a partial denture for you. A partial can be either removable or fixed. If you decide to have a removable partial, then our dental lab will craft a prosthetic that is made of false teeth attached to a metal frame. The frame has clips or brackets that hook on to your natural teeth in order to hold the partial in place. A partial can be made to fit between teeth just like a puzzle piece in order to replace missing teeth that are consecutive or not.

A fixed partial, more commonly called a bridge, requires placing dental crowns over healthy teeth on either side of the gap in your smile. The bridge is built as a single unit consisting of the two crowns and the false teeth in between. Once the crowns are cemented over the abutment teeth, this crown and bridge is a permanent replacement for tooth loss. The crowns can also be attached to dental implants if adjacent teeth aren’t strong enough.

Full Dentures in West Seneca

If you are completely edentulous (missing all of your teeth) along either your upper or lower arch, then you’ll want to have a full denture. This oral appliance consists of false teeth mounted on an acrylic base designed to look like you natural gum tissue. We’ll make sure your dentures fit comfortably on top of your gum ridge so you don’t experience discomfort or irritation. Although full dentures are designed to be held in place by natural suction and muscle strength in your cheeks, many people feel more confident using a denture adhesive, too.

We can also create implant-retained dentures for the most secure fit.
